Amber Latham

Hi! I’m Amber, Human Factors Engineer and UX Researcher living in Long Beach, California.

About Me

I’m a Human Factors Engineer and UX Researcher with a Master of Science degree in Human Factors and Ergonomics from California State University, Long Beach.

I am a strong advocate for the user and have a passion for making products and systems usable, enjoyable, and efficient. I understand the important role research plays in the design process, employing mixed methods and drawing insights from both quantitative and qualitative data. I’m looking to further apply my formal training and work experience in human-centered design best practices toward making products and systems usable and accessible.

My most recent work experience is as the lab manager and project lead for the Center for Usability in Design and Accessibility (CUDA). As the lab manager and user research lead, I was responsible for defining, planning, and conducting research, from researching user needs and behaviors, recruiting participants, facilitating and conducting usability testing and focus groups, analyzing qualitative and quantitative data, reviewing video and audio recordings for content analysis, presenting findings to teammates, lab directors, client dev teams, and other stakeholders, and providing recommendations for design improvements throughout the iterative design process.

I am also experienced in conducting heuristic evaluations, cognitive task analysis, accessibility evaluations, website redesigns, administering surveys/questionnaires, and collaborating on various research projects for presentation and publication.

This year, I co-authored three publications in the International Journal of Human-Computer Interaction and presented research at the Human-Computer Interaction International conference in July in Orlando, FL. My publications cover topics relating to web usability and accessibility, visual displays, and user preference and performance.

Outside of work, you can find me playing with my rescue pups or traveling to AZ, MN, NY, or FL to visit family and friends.
